"My work is like a game of colour, an interaction of form light and energy.
After many years of realistic painting, before and during college, I started to move toward abstract painting.

paint moves around and colours fuse together. I connect with this energy and work with it to create works to which people can relate at a deep level.
My ritual starts with the preparation and organisation of the materials which is an important part of focusing my energy and emotional feeling and allowing the excitement of starting a new painting to gain momentum.
The process of my painting still starts from realistic references, landscape and figurative etc. from which I loosely construct a composition. The act of painting is a delicate and precise balance between the use of skilful control, and the encouragement of the paint to move with gravity and freedom.
I tend to use strong primary colours, influenced by Italian Baroque painting eg. Titian. My work is not narrative, but seeks to express emotions, which are similar to the emotions I experience when I play or listen to music.
My greatest influence in modern painting is Howard Hodgkin. I admire his use of strong colours, which give energy and emotional feeling to his paintings.
I feel that although utilising a different technique, my work transmits similar emotions."
